Scope & Content |
This collection contains reports, souvenir publications, papers, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other miscellaneous items relating to Woburn. The materials detail anniversary celebrations and church histories, along with photographs, reports, and pamphlets. Many materials bear the name of Abijah Thompson, an early historian of Winchester and Woburn, who collected many of the items. |
Admin/Biographical History |
Woburn was one of Winchester's parent towns, incorporated in 1642. Many who lived within the boundaries of present-day Winchester were citizens of Woburn before 1850, and some were buried in its cemeteries. Some old Winchester families lived in both communities, and Winchester citizens have worked in Woburn's industries. Some of Winchester's early historians, such as Abijah Thompson and Nathanial Richardson, wrote about both Woburn and Winchester. |
