In 1990, officials from St. Germain-en-Laye and Winchester established the Winchester-St. Germain-en-Laye Jumelage, which began an enduring cultural, social, and historical friendship between these two communities. Residents from Winchester visited St. Germain in 1990, when the agreement was made. The first delegation from St. Germain visited Winchester in 1991. Many exchanges have since taken place, and the Jumelage is still active. Ellen Knight, a local historian and newspaper writer, became a member of the Jumelage at the time of its incorporation. She hosted the concert on June 5, 1991, led a walking tour of historic Winchester Center during the 10th anniversary celebration, and was tour guide for a trolley tour of Winchester on another occasion. She also wrote two articles on St. Germain for the Daily Times Chronicle, Jumelage Supplement, June 1991. |
