Admin/Biographical History |
The formation of the Winchester Antiques Study Group has been dated to 1956 based on surviving membership lists and an article in the Jan. 11, 1957 issue of The Winchester Star referring to it as "newly formed." It began when Loretta (Mrs. Clarence) Blake conducted a hobbies and crafts show and learned that there were a number of people interested in antiques. She contacted some of them to meet informally in private homes and discuss antiques. As word spread and more people joined, meetings were moved to the Rich Room of the Winchester Public Library. For a number of years, spring annual meetings were held at the Royall House in Medford. Eventually membership was limited to 25, and the group returned to meeting in private homes. In 1980, the group disbanded. It gave its records and remaining funds to the Winchester Historical Society. |
