This collection consists of administrative records and publicity documents that detail the activities of the Winchester chapter of the non-profit organization, Church Women United. These items include annual and board meeting minutes, news clippings, correspondence and promotional material. |
Admin/Biographical History |
Church Women United is a national Christian volunteer women's organization. Founded in 1941, the organization works for peace and justice in the United States and Puerto Rico. The organization welcomes members of all Christian denominations, both Protestant and Catholic. All chapters are required to observe three days: May Fellowship Day on the first Friday of May, World Community Day on the first Friday in November and World Day of Prayer, on the first Friday in March. The Winchester chapter of the organization was founded on February 29, 1972, for the purpose of encouraging church women to join together in their community to promote peace and justice. The chapter's mission is to coordinate and organize a variety of charitable events to raise money for various church ministries, which include Senior Citizen's luncheons, the sale of UNICEF Christmas cards and the Sale for the Blind. The chapter disbanded in May 2008. |
