Included in this collection are mostly black and white photographs of sporting events donated about 1990 by The Winchester Star when its offices moved out of Winchester. Many are of high school and junior high school football, baseball, basketball, and hockey games. Most do not have any information to identify players or years on them. The majority of those which are dated belong to the 1970s. A few photos from the 1980s are also included, perhaps later inclusions.
Admin/Biographical History
The first issue of The Winchester Star was printed in June 1881, and the newspaper continues to be published to this date (2020). In 1971, the Star became part of the firm Century Publications, Inc. When the offices, formerly located on Church Street in the town center, moved out of town, the photographs in this collection were donated to the Archives, along with news and feature photos which were integrated into existing collections.
