"The Sunny Side of School: The Chronicle of a Girls Good Time," a photograph and autograph album, was published by W. C. Horn, Brother and Company, Newark, N.J. Printed pages created sections for such subjects as the school, the teachers, games and sports, and chums. This album belonged to Claudia Marie Kelty, whose name is printed on the leather cover. She collected many autographs and a variety of photographs, though some of the sections in the album were left blank. |
Admin/Biographical History |
Claudia Marie Kelty (17 Jul 1918 - 12 Dec 2002), was the daughter of Henry and Marie (Baril) Kelty who moved to Winchester about 1920-1921, living first on Washington Street and from about 1924 at 52 Oxford Street, placing her in the Wyman School district. The family moved to Arlington by April 1931, and Kelty graduated from Arlington High School in 1935. A graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, winning the first prize in the design department upon graduation, she served on the school's board of directors. She painted professionally under her maiden name. With husband Stephen Maurice Edgell (1915-1981), a professional photographer, she returned to Winchester, where, in the late 1950s, the Edgells took up residency at 8 Sheffield West. The Wyman Elementary School which Kelty attended was the third building with that name, built in 1924 on north side of Church Street and since converted to condominiums. |
