This collection includes Winchester Fire Department photographs scanned from originals owned by the family of Michael M. Connolly. Included are photographs of firefighters, fires, and fire engines. Also included are some print information about Connolly and copies of some of his WWII letters. |
Admin/Biographical History |
Michael Martin Connolly (Nov. 9, 1916 - Dec. 18, 1998) was a member of the Winchester Fire Department for 35 years. Raised by immigrant parents at 22 Lochwan Street, he attended Winchester High School, Class of 1934, where he was class treasurer. He graduated from the Bentley School of Accounting. During World War II, he served in the finance corps of the Army Air Force in Australia. Afterward he joined the Fire Department, retiring in 1981 with the rank of Captain. He was also a Town Meeting member for 16 years and served on the Water and Sewer Commission, Personnel Board, Government Regulations Committee, and Energy Committee. |
