Admin/Biographical History |
In 1947, Town Meeting approved the creation of a Public Works Council to consist of the chairmen of the Board of Selectmen, Water and Sewer Board, Park Commissioners, and Cemetery Commissioners, plus the town engineer and the clerk of the Board of selectmen, ex officio. Its function was to co-ordinate the use of apparatus, equipment and labor by the several town departments in construction, repair, and maintenance of town and public works, and the collective purchasing of materials and supplies therefor. In 1969, it was contended in Town Meeting that the Council had not recorded a single meeting since 1958. Although the Council was reactivated in 1969, it was superseded by the Department of Public Works when the Town adopted a home-rule charter and made changes to its form of government in 1975. |
