Scope & Content |
This collection contains items from the collections of the Winchester Historical Society on local, state, and national anniversary celebrations. Winchester has held events to celebrate anniversaries such as the Massachusetts Bay Tercentenary, the Bicentennial, and the Winchester 350th Anniversary. Items include newspaper clippings, poster and publicity announcements, event programs, and brochures. |
Admin/Biographical History |
The events in this collection celebrate both local, state, and national history and milestones. Winchester has two dates on its Town Seal: 1850, when it was incorporated, and 1638, the date of the Book of Possessions, which records the allocation of land in this area to citizens of Charlestown for settlement. Anniversaries of both these dates have been observed, as well as the 250th anniversary of the first house, built in 1640. |
