Description |
Winchester Junior High School was first constructed in the 1930s on Main Street on a hill overlooking Manchester Field. It underwent renovations in the 1950s when adapted for use as a high school. When a second junior high building was constructed, the new school was named Lynch and the existing junior high school was named McCall Junior High. After the new high school on Skillings Road opened in 1972, the original junior high building was again used as a junior high. When the 6th grade wing was finished in 2000, the school became the McCall Middle School. This image shows the groundbreaking for the construction of sixth grade wing. Pictured (left to right) are: Eli Bortman, Kathleen Bodie, Maureen McWilliams, Sarah Swiger, Jim Johnson, (unknown), Bob Deering, Joe Randolph, Mark Lombardi, (unknown), (unknown), Charles Tseckares, Steve Powers, Edward O'Connell, Carol Eaton, who was the Superintendent of Schools, plus representatives of HMFH Architects, including Steve Millington (far right). |
