The first building of the First Baptist Church (1864-1928) at the corner of Washington and Mount Vernon Streets. A watering trough is visible in the intersection. The Baptist Society, organized in 1852 dedicated its first building on June 9, 1864. It was replaced by a larger structure designed by George F. Newton in 1928. |
